Letter to the Editor: Corruption PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

The following letter was sent to the Fayetteville Observer on January 26, 2010.

I am responding to the Observer editorial, "Cleanup: Corruption needs bipartisan effort to cure it"  on January 26, which addressed some of the corruption charges facing prominent N.C. Democrats, and the need for both parties to do something about it.

The editorial touched on a real problem, but fell short of giving a real solution. The problem of corruption isn't solved by the Democrats or Republicans. It isn't solved by government at all. The problem of corruption is government, and the only way to end that corruption is to decrease the size and scope of government.

Republicans and Democrats Continue to Fail PDF Print E-mail

One need only look to the daily news to see that the public is ready for a change. Not “change you can believe in,” or some other semi-catchy slogan. Americans want real change.

The Democrats have had control of the House and Senate since 2006, and now enjoy a super-majority in both chambers. However, they struggle to convince the American people that the change we need is bigger government, more spending, and more government control over our daily lives.

Obama currently sits at a 44% approval rating in the most recent Rasmussen poll, the lowest of any previous president at this point in his presidency since the poll has been conducted. What this tells us is that Americans are beginning to understand that government programs are not free, and in order to pass massive “progressive” legislation, it will require the government intruding upon once sacred ground like doctor-patient relationships.

Spend our way out of recession? PDF Print E-mail

So it seems that President Obama has taken up Bush's policy of increasing the federal debt, continuing no-win wars and using big government to control greater aspects of our daily lives. President Obama said in a recent speech that we must continue to "spend our way out of this recession", a clear indication that fiscal responsibility is much further down the road than we had hoped. Libertarians must be the voice of fiscal responsibility and big government. We must be the party of Liberty and the American tradition of self reliance and self responsibility. Republicans and Democrats won't step up to the plate to fix the problems of this country by getting out of the way of people, business and the market.

Only 38% of Americans support health care bills PDF Print E-mail

"Just 38% of voters now favor the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s the lowest level of support measured for the plan in nearly two dozen tracking polls conducted since June." (READ MORE)

So, it seems that support for the the administration's efforts to change health care are dwindling, with only 38% of people now supporting the plan. However, it seems as if Congress is planning to continue ramming the bills down our throat as our country sinks deeper into debt. The Libertarian Party opposes large government, in all its forms, and if Libertarians had been in office, health care costs probably would have never went up in the first place. It's time that we throw out the Demopublicrats and vote for real change, and some fiscal sanity.

Aberdeen rejects rezoning for nonprofit PDF Print E-mail

Aberdeen isn't in Cumberland County, but recent news out of the small city should be troubling to Libertarians. The Aberdeen City council voted yesterday to not allow land purchased by Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit group that builds affordable housing for low-income families, to be rezoned from R-2 to R-15 residential housing. This means that the land, which was purchased by the non-profit from the NC Dept. of Transportation, cannot be developed for the type of housing that Habitat builds.

This is important to Libertarians for two reasons:

The worst evils which mankind has ever had to endure were inflicted by bad governments. The state can be and has often been in the course of history the main source of mischief and disaster. -- Ludwig von Mises
